The Importance of 3rd Party Integrations for Postman Pro

Avatar

The primary motivation for the Postman team is to build a strong API development toolchain that integrates seamlessly with the developer’s workflow.  Postman has always supported an open ecosystem, working with industry leaders to introduce new features and integrations to help their users move painlessly through API development and improve their productivity.

Postman Pro users currently have access to a dozen of the most requested 3rd party integrations on the Postman Integrations directory, with more being released every month. If you’re not already on Postman Pro, you can start a free trial.

What is an Integration anyway?

Organizations use the term “integration” inclusively, sometimes overly so, and different teams within the same organization may even use the term in different ways as well. As someone who works with APIs, you are already familiar with the idea of bridging communications from one entity to another.

In this case, we are talking about “integrations” as a way to share data or functionality between Postman and other tools that you might rely on for API development.  When manually importing and exporting data from one application to another becomes a chore, an integration can help.

For example, suppose you use GitHub for your repository management. You also use Postman to develop and test your APIs.  If only there was a way to easily save your Postman Collections to a GitHub repo.  Well, now you can – with the Postman to GitHub integration!

Here’s how to add an Integration:

Log on to your Dashboard from the Postman website, and navigate to the Integrations page to see a list of all the currently available integrations for Postman Pro users.

Select Dashboard.

Select Integrations.

Three Examples of Postman Pro Integrations:

Slack

Slack’s chat services have become an integral part of many developers’ daily lives. Using the Postman Pro to Slack integration, create a live view of your Postman team’s activity feed, search shared Postman Collections, and keep tabs on your Postman Monitors’ results.  Learn how to do all of this, and more, all from the comfort of your very own Slack channel.

APIMatic

APIMatic’s API transformer tool makes it easy to convert Postman API documentation into different formats such as Swagger, API Blueprint, and RAML among others, by storing Postman Collections in a repository of your choosing. Learn how to do this for your own Postman API documentation.

GitHub

As previously mentioned, Postman Pro users can also integrate with repository hosting services like GitHub to backup and synchronize Postman Collections.  Once this integration is activated, every change saved to your Postman Collection will automatically sync with your GitHub repository. Learn how to do this in under 2 minutes.

These examples of 3rd party integrations were designed with your productivity in mind.  We are continuing to partner with other industry leaders and working on new integrations for tools that you’ve come to rely on.  Check out the full list available to Postman users.

Don’t see what you’re looking for?  Feel free to build your own integration using Postman Pro’s API, and let us know if you have other tools that you rely on for API development that could use an integration with Postman.

Joyce, great stuff as always. Do you also have API security tool integration in your roadmap or already in place.
