Introducing Cisco DevNet APIs to the Postman API Network – Security, Networking, Device, and Video-conferencing APIs

We have a new suite of Postman Collections to share with our community, published by network and security provider Cisco as part of the Cisco DevNet platform. Anytime we get a new API published to the Postman API Network we try to cover it here on the blog, but Cisco has given us the opportunity to showcase not a single collection, but ten separate Postman API collections, spanning their networking, security, and video conferencing solutions.

This post will provide you with a look at all the valuable API resources Cisco provides and visibility into how Cisco uses Postman to organize, collaborate, and make their APIs more accessible to their community.

To get access to the Cisco DevNet API collections you can visit the Postman API network and browse the documentation. You can easily add each collection to your own Postman instance using the Run in Postman button. Browse the API Network to get access to over 200 individual API requests available across 10 distinct API collections.

Networking

  • Cisco SD-WAN (Documentation) – The Cisco SD-WAN REST API is a programmatic interface for controlling, configuring, and monitoring the SD-WAN devices in an overlay network.
  • Cisco DNA Center APIs (Documentation) –  This collection is a subset of Cisco DNA Center APIs that cover authentication, network and device discovery, image manager, command runner, and more.

Security

Devices

  • Cisco CE xAPI (as admin) (Documentation) – This collection allows you to send commands, update configuration and request status for on-premise Collaboration Devices, and cloud-registered Webex Devices
  • Cisco CE xAPI (as Integrator) (Documentation) – Send commands, update configuration and request status for on-premises Collaboration Devices, and cloud-registered Webex Devices.
  • Cisco Intersight (Documentation) – This collection is a subset of Intersight’s OpenAPI specification that covers authentication, claiming devices, server profile, and resources.

Videoconferencing

Each of these Postman collections provides you with quick access to the valuable networking, security, device, and videoconferencing APIs offered by Cisco. By importing these collections, you’ll have everything you need to get up and running using Cisco APIs within your Cisco-powered solutions.

The Postman collections help you get up and running using Cisco APIs, but they also provide you with a case study on how to define your own API collections, organizing your APIs into meaningful folders and individual requests that help developers get started – fast. The API Network is an excellent opportunity to expose your API(s) to the public.

To put Cisco DevNet APIs to use you will need to have the relevant software behind each of the APIs. You will need to head over to the Cisco DevNet portal, sign up for an account, and get the access keys.

Cisco DevNet provides developers with a robust look at how APIs are not just being used to manage web and mobile applications, but also how they allow us to manage the infrastructure behind our applications as well as our APIs. Programmatically orchestrating your security, network, device, and other resource management can be simplified by using these powerful web APIs.
